We are really looking forward to the day camp ministry this summer. After much prayer, reflection and discussion, we’ve decided to concentrate the activities on an under-served area of interest in the community – the arts!
We felt led to adapt the former “Camp Sunrise” to “Studio 15” in part because of the need in this neighbourhood for a community arts program and in part because of the number of summer staff with gifts and talents in this area.
Of course, we will still have all the fun summer camp activities like swimming, games and field trips, but our focus will be on the arts: music, visual arts, drama and creative writing. With help from both Youth Unlimited and Jenna Burke Music Studios, we’ll be offering a wide variety of elements designed to introduce campers to and/or help campers develop an appreciation for the arts.
The camp itself will run for 6 weeks; Monday to Thursday each week (except the Civic Holiday), from July 5th to August 12th. A nominal registration fee of $10 per camper per week is charged, but if a family cannot afford it, we will offer a subsidy or waive the fee entirely.
Despite all the changes, ultimately our goals remain the same. We want to build relationships with youth in our community, get to know them, and share Jesus with them.
Our hope is they will respond to Jesus’ invitation and become part of our faith community. It is really an amazing thing that we have youth from so many different backgrounds, cultures, and faith traditions coming together during the summer right here at Kingsview.
Please pray that God will bring the right young people to the camp, for the summer staff, and all the planning that will go into making Studio 15 a positive, memorable experience for everyone involved.
Thanks for your support!
