Before my time here at Kingsview, our family never observed Lent. If I was to ask one of my Christian friends about it, they would have no idea what to say! I used to believe that Ash Wednesday and Lent were only for the Catholic or Anglican Church traditions. But now, for the second year in a row, I am observing Lent along with my Kingsview family! It’s definitely not easy, but it has been rewarding every time! This year, I even made pancakes for my family on Shrove Tuesday!
My theme passage for Lent this year is: “Your ways, O Lord, make known to me; teach me your paths.” – Psalm 25:4. I chose this verse because this is exactly what’s on my heart. God has all the answers, and I am utterly clueless, in need of a Savior. Lent is a time to earnestly seek Him, to sacrifice in fasting, to deny our flesh and feed our Spirit.
I don’t follow this tradition in order to “perform” better for Christ or to appear more holy than my Christian peers who don’t practise it. After my time at Urbana 2012, I was reminded to let go of the reins on my life, surrender and repent everything to God. There is no way to serve the world and God at the same time. He wants all of us! This is a season focused on doing just that, and I’m happy to be joining other believers here and all around the world!
I’m excited for this season of Lent to have another opportunity to experience Christ’s sacrifice in a deeper, more enriching way.
