Beginning in the 1960s, a monthly ladies’ meeting, known as WMFI (Women’s Missionary Fellowship International), was held in the Kingsview lounge. The WMFI was led by an executive, made up of a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.

Each month had a special theme but the WMFI’s main focus was foreign missions and our group of dedicated ladies faithfully supported our Canadian missionaries overseas with letters, prayers and boxes of rolled bandages and other useful medical and personal supplies. Although these ladies worked tirelessly, inevitably it became apparent that something new needed to be added.

The idea of a ladies’ supper meeting three times a year drew great favour.

The original team members that planned these events were Evelyn Belsher and Reta Stephenson, assisted by Marie Long and Nora Moreau. They were held in the fall, in early winter and near Mother’s Day. Delicious homemade food was provided and each meeting had a special feature and a guest speaker. I remember a bridal fashion show at one of these events.

One year, it was decided that there should be a contest to name these important times of friendship and fellowship. The name, “Connections”, was chosen and has been used ever since. It is quite amazing to realize how many connections really have been made through this ministry, not only to those at Kingsview but to so many who are drawn by the warm invitation of others.

For several years, “Connections” get togethers had to be discontinued due to life challenges, but it was restarted again in the spring of 2007 under the leadership of Heather Campbell, Rayma Fletcher, Kathy Hewgill and Lois Tomc. “Connections” is now offered twice a year, on the last Tuesday in October and on the first Tuesday in May.

This spring’s event is happening on May 5th at 6:30 p.m. with our special guest, Dianne Ticknor, who is a gifted musician and speaker. We trust that our ladies and teen girls will not miss this wonderful opportunity for an evening of fellowship and inspiration.
