Everyone who has become a part of the spiritual “Body of Christ” through faith in Him has one or more service assignments in His Church. The Living Bible paraphrases 1 Corinthians 12: 4-7 this way, “Now God gives us many kinds of special abilities, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service to God, but it is the same Lord we are serving. There are many ways in which God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work in and through all of us who are his. The Holy Spirit displays God’s power through each of us as a means of helping the entire church.”
From May 16 to 19, leaders from Free Methodist Churches across Canada meet in a General Conference. Among other things, the leaders seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance regarding various national roles. Members of the Conference pray to discern which leaders are gifted and called to fulfill those roles.
Here at Kingsview, in our Society Meeting in June, we have a similar process. Church members prayerfully select volunteers to guide the administration of the church, electing them to the Official Board and to the Finance Team. The Society then gives this Board Elect the authority to establish other leadership, such as the Property Team.
This year, another team established by the Board is in the midst of the process of calling two co-pastors. These Pastoral Leadership Task Force members are about to start reviewing and short-listing the applications received. Join them in prayer as they seek to hear the Spirit speak clearly as in the early days of the church when “the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.” Acts 13:3
Yes. We are thankful that Kingsview FMC has devoted leaders that continue to offer their gifts, willingness and dedication to diverse responsibilities.
However, while some leaders may be in the forefront from time to time, there are many others who work in less prominent roles or behind the scenes, laser-focused on using their strengths and gifts, from handiwork to hospitality, for God’s glory.
Now – I have a question for you. What is your service assignment? When Christ saves you from sin, He also calls you into service. There is something that He wants you to do. He has gifted you to do it.
The roles mentioned above make up a very small segment of the service functions that propel our church on its mission. I understand you may not be sure what service area God is calling you into as yet. But as we approach our Society Meeting and look towards equipping the church in the months ahead, express your willingness to Pastor Darrin or other leaders.
We’ll pray for you and with you. We would be thrilled to discern together how to get you on the path to fulfilling your God-given purpose here at Kingsview and beyond.
