Valentine’s Day is my birthday. It’s a great day to have a birthday on! What better day to have your birthday than on the day we celebrate love?
The stores are filled with decorations, people are exchanging cards with loved ones, not to mention all the chocolates and flowers being given and received. In case you didn’t know, several St. Valentines (there have been a few over the centuries) have been celebrated as martyrs for Christianity, since as early as the 2nd century.
By the 15th century, St. Valentine’s Day had evolved into an occasion in which people expressed their love for each other by giving flowers, offering candy, chocolate and other sweets, and sending hand-written or mass-produced greeting cards known as “Valentines”, in addition to church celebrations on the seasonal/liturgical calendar (Wikipedia).
As we get ready to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, why not think about what we love about Kingsview church? By that I mean Kingsview’s people!
One of the aspects I love about Kingsview is our children and youth. We are blessed to have the number of kids and young people that we do in our church family.
What do you love about the kids at Kingsview?
I love their energy and creativity that we see in Studio 15, their willingness to learn and develop in homework club, the great spiritual conversations and honest questions they have in Donuts & Discussion, and the fun we have in youth group.
I also really love it when our young people are involved in leading us in worship! Wouldn’t it be great to have more of the kids involved more often?
Would you, like me, love to see them serving in all kinds of different areas, using the gifts that God has given them? They need to experience our love and support for this to happen.
How do you express your love to and support of our young people?
1 John 3 encourages us to love not just with words, but with actions! If you haven’t expressed God’s love to children and youth before, just start with words, and once you’ve mastered encouraging them this way, show God’s love for them in action!
Pray for them, welcome them, get to know them, consider volunteering your time and yourself in Studio 15, homework club, and/or the youth group.
Let’s not just say we value children and youth at Kingsview; let’s demonstrate our love for them, let’s show them that we mean it with our actions.
