Palm Sunday is one of the most important days of the Christian calendar.

This day is the first of Holy Week, a time to reflect on the last week of Jesus’ life. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, among coats and palms to celebrate the Passover. As Jesus rode by, the crowds cried out “Hosanna” to show their praise and adoration.

In a matter of days, those same crowds that cried “Hosanna”, turned jeers and taunts towards Jesus as he was carrying the cross. Those same believers who were proclaiming their devotion to Jesus, were proclaiming to have Him crucified.

It’s so easy to want to shake our heads in judgment at these crowds; to call them hypocrites. However, aren’t we just like them?

We come to church on a Sunday and proclaim our “Hosanna” to Christ, but then on other days we stray and the adoration doesn’t show in our day-to-day.

Christ carried the weight of our sins on the cross, He knew when He was riding on the donkey that the crowds would eventually change their tune.

Even so, out of love He sacrificed Himself for our sins! God is continually shaping us so that our “Hosanna” to Him is evident in our hearts and in our daily lives.

Throughout the upcoming Holy Week, as we reflect on the life and the sacrifice of Jesus, let’s pray that God will reveal to us what is holding us back from wholeheartedly living out our devotion to Him.

Kingsview’s Palm Sunday Service is on Sunday, April 1, 2012 and will feature music, video and a Children’s Processional. Pastor Howard will be speaking on “Having The Mind of Jesus” from the scripture passage Philippians 2:5-11.
