“Give thanks to our Lord, our God and King… His love endures forever…” Psalm 136
Chris Tomlin’s “Forever” is one of those worship songs that has been around for so long; it may seem overdone and as if it has lost its meaning. As popular as the song is, the message is so crucial that it’s enough to shake us to the very core!
I recently had the pleasure of re-reading Psalm 136, the passage on which the song is based. This beautifully describes the depth of God’s promises to us; a promise from a Loving Father who has loved us from the beginning of time.
Verses 23 and 24 state, “He remembered us in our weakness, His love endures forever, He saved us from our enemies, His love endures forever…” Even when we are at our lowest point, the love of God is steadfast, strong and will endure longer than we can even imagine.
We have zero reason to rely on our own strength. His loving promises are enough to bring us over any obstacle! I came across a blog where the writer took Psalm 136 and personalized it to her own situation.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
You remember us when we feel insufficient
Your love endures forever
You are with us when we lose loved ones
Your love endures forever
You are faithful when the future seems bleak
Your love endures forever
You have protected us and kept us safe
Your love endures forever

This is a powerful practice to do, really meditating on the text. I encourage you to create your own “Psalm”, as a prayer to God, worshipping Him for His eternal promises.
